Siblings of Silver
Aila wasn’t the only one making a name for herself in the region. Among the names thrown about in the taverns, one seemed to come up more than any other: The Siblings of Silver. It was said that this brother and sister pair would take on any job, as long as the pay was good. Be it vile thugs or fierce monsters, nothing was safe once the combo had their sights set on a target. Mercenaries, monster hunters, cretins, it didn’t matter much what you called them, as long as you lined their pockets with enough silver. That’s why Aila was surprised when she found herself in the same room as these siblings.
She had been contacted a few days earlier via a small magical orb. As unnerved as Aila felt about being found so easily, the message was not only offering an interesting amount of silver, but a pardon for her crimes. It was too tempting an offer. And so, she decided to investigate. If things seemed too fishy, she would hightail it out of there before anyone even knew she was around.
It quickly became obvious why Aila was sought out for this assignment. The target was a group of dark creepers that had been making trouble in the region. The local baron didn’t want to take any chances with such a threat, so he sent requests to all the supposed heroes in the area. Seemed only three had the stones to answer the call.
The group set out soon after. The siblings were obviously confident in their own abilities, and didn’t want to bother waiting for any others. While on the road, what struck Aila the most was just how different the two were. The woman, Valeria, was very reserved, speaking only when she needed to and stayed focused on the task set before her. Olev, on the other hand, was much more chatty and animated. However, the biggest surprise was the vast difference in their fighting styles. Olev was a paladin, a knight of divine fury who used nothing but his fists, while Valeria was devoted to the arcane arts intertwined with swordplay. Aila could only wonder how siblings with such differing views could spend so much time together without driving each other crazy.
The dark creeper camp was easily located by the skilled group. Despite the reputation of the creatures, Aila was hesitant about the situation. Little was known about these possibly misunderstood beings. Were they really such a threat? The siblings, however, held no such reservations. They quickly set about accomplishing their task, adopting a very straightforward tactic. The paladin threw himself into battle, striking down any who challenged him. And the hexblade, while more tactful and graceful, fought with an equal intensity. As she joined the fray, Aila could only hope that these creatures deserved such punishment.
